Chaos erupted in the Ghaziabad District Court after lawyers and a judge clashed following an argument over a case related to an official of the Bar Association. As the brawl escalated, police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the lawyers. Several lawyers suffered injuries during the incident.
Visuals of the clash between police and lawyers have surfaced on social media. Videos show the police using lathi-charge to evict the lawyers from the court premises. Chairs were also hurled in the courtroom during the brawl.
As the argument broke out with the district judge, a large number of lawyers surrounded the judge’s chamber. The judge then informed the police, who arrived at the scene and began removing the lawyers.
Angry over the lathi charge, the lawyers staged a protest and vandalised the police post at the court complex, reports said. The lawyers also shouted slogans against the judge. After the incident, all the judges stopped working in the court. The Bar Association has also called for a meeting.
Speaking on the incident, Ghaziabad Additional Police Commissioner Dinesh Kumar P said, “Hearing was going on in the courtroom, and advocates and many others were present inside the chamber. An advocate demanded the transfer of bail. When it was rejected, the altercation started.”
