Despite Harmanpreet Kaur’s half-century, India could not close the chase and fell short by 9 nine runs in their must-win Group A match in the Women’s T20 World Cup in Sharjah on Sunday. Earlier, Renuka Singh Thakur (2/24) and Deepti Sharma (2/28) had played pivotal roles but Australia posted a tricky 152-run target.
India needed a big win to try and overtake Australia’s NRR but will now hope for a favor from Pakistan, who face New Zealand in their final group-stage game. While India has four points from their four matches, New Zealand has as many points, a better net run rate, and a game in hand.
India has created an all-time record against Bangladesh with their huge win in the third and final T20I of the series in Hyderabad. Led by a sensational batting performance and then an impressive outing with the ball, the hosts steamrolled the Bangla Tigers with a 133-run victory.
The Indian team was as clinical as any team would be with a great all-round performance. The batters went crazy at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Sanju Samson smashed a jaw-dropping century, making 111 from 47 balls, while captain Suryakumar Yadav struck 75 from 35 deliveries. They both notched up a stand of 173 for the second wicket.
The wicket-keeper batter has joined an elite list of players with the most runs in an over in T20Is. Samson is only the second Indian to hit 30 or more runs in an over. Moreover, he finds himself in an elite list of players with five or more consecutive sixes in an over.
A fresh-looking male Indian team will be taking Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, starting from October 6 in Gwalior. The New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium will be hosting its first International match as cricket returns to Gwalior again. Star all-rounder Shivam Dube has been ruled out of the T20I series against the Bangla Tigers due to a back injury, BCCI has confirmed. “All-rounder Shivam Dube is ruled out of the three-match T20I series owing to a back injury. The Senior Selection Committee has named Tilak Varma as Shivam’s replacement. Tilak will link up with the squad in Gwalior on Sunday morning,” the Indian Board wrote in a statement. Team India will be led by Surya Kumar Yadav.
