Team USA topped the medals table at the Paris Olympic Games with 40 gold medals and a total of 126. China, who were the last team apart from the U.S. to top the medal table when they did it at home at the 2008 Beijing Games, also won 40 golds. But because they managed only 27 silvers, they finished second on the medals table. The U.S. earned 44 silver medals.

India, with a total of 6 medals, including one silver and five bronze medals, finished at the 71st spot in the overall medal tally, which is significantly lower than their 48th overall finish at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where they won a total of 7 medals, including one gold, two silver, and four bronze medals.

Aman Sehrawat has secured India’s fifth bronze medal at the Paris Olympics defeating Puerto Rico’s Darian Toi Cruz 13-5 in the 57kg freestyle wrestling. He was the only male wrestler for India competing this year and the man has created history in his maiden appearance at the Olympic Games.

India’s star track and field athlete Neeraj Chopra recorded his season-best throw of 89.45m to win silver in the men’s javelin event at the Paris Olympics after Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem shattered the all-time Olympic record of 90.57m with a throw of 92.97m to clinch the gold medal.

Harmanpreet Singh added yet another glittering feather to his illustrious cap as the Indian men’s hockey team captain finished as the leading goal-scorer at the Paris Olympics. The 28-year-old star drag-flicker went into the bronze medal match against Spain with eight goals to his name and was already the leading goal-scorer. He added to his tally by scoring two more phenomenal goals and helped India clinch bronze at the Paris Olympics.

Vinesh Phogat was left heartbroken after she was disqualified from participating in the final of the 50 kg wrestling event as she failed to fall in the weight category by approximately 100 grams. She has appealed against the Ban. Meanwhile, Phogat on Thursday announced her retirement from wrestling. This came a day after being disqualified from the women’s 50kg competition at the Paris Olympics for being overweight for the final. The hopes of Vinesh Phogat winning a silver medal despite her disqualification now look a bit brighter. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has accepted the wrestler’s plea according to a report by India Today, and the hearing is likely to be held on Friday (August 9) at 10 AM IST. This will come as a ray of hope for the wrestler and millions of India fans who had a torrid day on August 8/

The hearing of the Court of Arbitration for Sports in the case has been concluded. The Court of Arbitration had been slated to announce the final verdict in the case on Saturday at 6 pm Paris Time (ie 9:30 pm IST). This has now been expected by 9:30 PM IST on 13 August.
